What happens at an
initial intake appointment?

After you schedule an initial intake appointment with one of our therapists for a date and time that works for you, you will meet us in our office for an evaluation.

At Blue Jellyfish Speech and Language, we do our own assessment for a variety of reasons. We primarily rely on informal assessment measures, which provide us with significantly more information than the formal measures used by a public school system or insurance-based clinic (they are only using those measures because they have to justify services). Our assessment process is significantly less taxing on clients. We do whatever investigation we feel is appropriate and move on from there.

We will spend the session getting to know the client and their family through a combination of play, conversation, and naturalistic observation to gain a holistic understanding of the client. Our home-like office setting helps our therapists capture how an individual communicates in real-life situations, giving us a more accurate representation of the client’s strengths and challenges with regards to communication. Families are welcome to bring all any and all questions, concerns, hopes, and goals that they may have. We want to create open, collaborative relationships with families, and encourage family involvement in the therapeutic process.

Intake appointments are $140, which covers the 45-minute session, as well as the additional time for the clinician to go over your child's case history and prepare whatever she feels is necessary for your child. You will not need to pay for a report.

What Our Clients Are Saying

"Our lives have been profoundly changed for the better upon meeting and working with Anne. I got the distinct sense that she truly cared about children and was passionate about working with them. She addressed all of my concerns and pointed us in the right direction to optimize services our daughter would need. She worked with the recommendations provided by our developmental pediatrician and created a curriculum to improve our daughter's speech delay that each member of the household could perform. In just 3 months time, our daughter's speech dramatically improved and she became much more vocal and verbally interactive. Now, just barely 6 months after our first meeting with Annie, our daughter won't stop talking!"
