Blue Jellyfish
Speech & Language Services

What makes us different from your everyday speech clinic...

Therapy at Blue Jellyfish is child-led and play-based. This results in the maximum amount of learning and generalization possible for our clients. We believe in involving family-centered therapy to form a strong, cohesive team to best help you and/or your child.

We target spontaneous, creative, and flexible language, as well as increasing the desire to communicate with others. We help children move through the language, social, and play stages specific to their type of development, until they are able to communicate in a manner similar to their peers. We work on social understanding through play, stories, and discussion. We believe in building on children’s strengths.

For clients working on speech sounds, they will generally be doing fun things, like playing with games and toys while learning the sounds. We want the time to be fun and rewarding for them while they are learning. We have excellent results with lasting speech clarity and phonics preparation.

We have an autism specialization with incredible results. We target spontaneous, creative, and self-generated language. This helps children avoid the common pitfalls of prompt dependency and interaction resistance.

We are not able to take children currently undergoing ABA treatment, but we are experienced at family-centered ABA recovery.

Our lives have been profoundly changed for the better upon meeting and working with Anne. I got the distinct sense that she truly cared about children and was passionate about working with them. She addressed all of my concerns and pointed us in the right direction to optimize services our daughter would need. She worked with the recommendations provided by our developmental pediatrician and created a curriculum to improve our daughter's speech delay that each member of the household could perform. In just 3 months time, our daughter's speech dramatically improved and she became much more vocal and verbally interactive. Now, just barely 6 months after our first meeting with Annie, our daughter won't stop talking!

We are forever grateful to Annie for unlocking the key to our daughter's speech. We are confident that as we continue to utilize the tools she's given us, our daughter's speech delay will be a distant memory in the near future!

My daughter, Beth, started working with Annie when she was 7 years old. Beth was diagnosed with a speech delay at 1.5 years old and apraxia around 3 years of age.

The first positive thing I noted about Annie was that she was one of the few therapists who concentrated in apraxia who was very flexible with session times. With other speech therapists concentrating in apraxia, they had one spot available which caused me to have to pull Beth out of school early. Annie was fairly flexible with the time!

Second, Annie recognized immediately the areas that Bethany still required concentration. Annie went to the extra level of collaborating with Beth's school therapist to attempt to work as a cohesive unit. She worked with Beth's school therapist to attempt to work as a cohesive unit. She worked with Bethany 45 minutes a week and weekly gave her homework to stress those concepts. Beth quickly progressed to overcome her issues which was a pleasant surprise!

However, the biggest issue that Annie recognized (which Beth's other speech therapists had never identified) was that Beth could not read her vowels properly. Due to this issue, Beth would barely ever try to sound out words and was greatly falling behind her peers in the books she could read. Annie developed phrases and techniques to help Beth learn when a vowel "says its name" (long vowel sound) versus short vowel sound. She taught Beth the concept of when one vowel "kicks" another vowel and "makes it says it name." Shortly after Beth started working on her vowels, she grew in her abilities and confidence and was able to read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series in 2nd grade. In third grade, Bethany is now able to read the Harry Potter books, which she is thrilled about!

Annie's ability to identify Beth's required areas of concentration and to make a thorough plan to overcome the issues was amazing! I cannot recommend Annie Hasting enough as a speech therapist, especially for children with Apraxia!

My son needed to work with a Speech Therapist to help him practice conversations with his peers and responses to verbal directions. These skills were incredibly difficult for him due to a diagnosed Verbal Processing Delay. He became easily frustrated because he could not process verbal directions or conversations quickly. He did not interact with his peers or teachers. When Annie came to work with him, she was so patient and he was always excited to work with her! She was able to help him build confidence when conversing with others, and she modeled appropriate conversational interactions for him to practice.

Annie always looked out for his best interest and made sure he got exactly what he needed to be successful. He went from being a very shy and unhappy Preschooler to a confident 2nd Grader who loves to talk to others! Annie was a blessing to our family and especially to our son.

Annie has worked with 3 of my kids, all with very different needs. We had been using other therapists before we came to Annie and it was a battle every week because they did not want to go sit at a table and repeat words for 45 minutes. Annie has a completely different approach. It's like a play date and my kids cannot wait to see Annie every week. One of my kids is Deaf and has cochlear implants. Annie has used piano to work on listening skills for her. She plays games and really connects with the kids.

Annie is really good at what she does, she gets results and you can tell she really loves working with kids. She is one of the kindest and most patient people I have ever met and she really focuses on helping families. I can honestly say I don't know where we would be if Annie Hasting had not entered our lives. Thank you Annie!

I have worked with Annie for about the past eight months and have made steady progress in my tongue thrust issues and interdental "s" sounds. I worked briefly with another SLP many years ago, but ended up needing additional help when most of my speech issues were not resolved. Since working with Annie, I've learned a lot more about the scope of my speech issues as well as new methods of treating it. I'd recommend her to anyone that has trouble with their speech.
